Course 1
The Plumbing Syllabus
During your two weeks, you will be taught the following:
· Soldering copper pipe and fittings
· Bending copper pipe with a machine 
· Test exercise incorporating pipe bending and soldering. Exercise piece is pressure tested.
· How to use plastic pipe and fittings
· How to use compression fittings
· Where and how to fit soil and waste pipes
· Theory of how to fit a bathroom suite
· Fit bathroom suites using skills learnt
· Fitting hot water cylinders
· Fitting immersion heaters
· Fitting cold water tanks
· Fitting showers and shower trays. You will fit an electric shower with instruction on how to safely wire it. You will also fit a shower with hot and cold feeds.
·
Fit a kitchen sink including supplies for a washing machine and a dishwasher
· Fitting an outside (hose) tap
· Repairs to taps, ball valves and toilet cisterns
· How to unblock drains
Course 2
The Central Heating Syllabus


You will also be taught the following about central heating:
· Different types of boilers
· Planning a central heating system
· How central heating works
· Calculating radiator and boiler sizes
· Where to site a boiler – Regulations
· Controls – pumps, zone valves, 3 port valves, and thermostats
· Installation of heating systems – combi, sealed and open vented
· Combi boiler system and tank and cylinder system 
· Electrical – minimum requirement expected of a plumber
· Basic gas works
· Basic regulations on installing pipe work
· Gas fittings
· Gas soundness testing
We are convinced that after taking this course, you will be competent in any practical task asked of you using the skills and understanding you have acquired throughout the two weeks.
Please recognize that the course on gas is simply a general overview. It is very dangerous and is illegal to do alone without the proper training and assessment from a registered training establishment. This course does not permit you to carry out this sort of task with out sufficient supervision.
On completion of each subject, your knowledge will be tested by a set of multiple choice questions. This will improve your understanding and help to consolidate your new knowledge.
You will be learning in a purpose built workshop that allows you to have hands on experience with all of the equipment that you are expected to use.
